Jail for thief caught with 20 mobile phones down his tights

A thief who was caught with 20 stolen mobile phones down a pair of tights he was wearing under his trousers after a tracking device helped police locate him, has been jailed.

Ionut Guita, 23, was arrested and charged in connection with a spate of phone thefts at the Sundown Festival at the Norfolk Showground in Costessey earlier this year.

Police were called on September 2 after a young woman reported her iPhone stolen. The victim, together with her friend, used a tracking application to trace the phone to the McDonald’s restaurant at Longwater Lane where she contacted police.

Officers entered the restaurant and dialled the number of the stolen phone to identify the thief who was searched and found to have 20 phones hidden in a pair of tights which he was wearing under his trousers. Guita, of Corporation Street, London, has been sentenced to a total of 30 months and two weeks in prison after he pleaded guilty to all theft charges.
