Mary Josephine Ray was a Canadian-American supercentenarian who was born on 17 May 1895, just one week after the birth of Kama Chinen, the oldest person in the world since 11 September 2009. She herself was the oldest American person since the same date.
Born to French-Canadian parents in 1895, she moved to the US when she was 3. Her father died when she was 7 and her mother followed when she was 15 as well. She lived independently until she was 100, after which she moved into a nursing home. She has two living sons, one 85 and the other 86.
On 1 March 2010, her great-great-great-great grandson was born. 6 days later, on 7 March 2010, Mary Josephine Ray died at the age of 114 years and 294 days. She was the 30th oldest person who had ever lived.
